The following post was written largely in part by my friend Battista of Cenarion Circle at my request. Although I have given it a few edits of my own I would like to point out that it represents the feelings and thoughts of ALL of the officers and organizers of The Brood of Reckoning. We act as one.
"The time has come," the Walrus said, "to talk of many things..."
This is an announcement that has been a long time coming, a decision that has been mulled over and contemplated for many months, over pitchers of beer, over dinners, over hours in Ventrilo. A decision has been made that has not, in any way, shape, or form, been made lightly.
Brood of Reckoning is closing its doors on Cenarion Circle after five great years and we are moving away.
I'll give you a moment to digest that. You read it correctly, it's not a joke. In 72 hours or less from the time of this posting The Brood of Reckoning of Cenarion Circle will no longer exist.
For those not aware, BoR started on Cenarion Circle March 20th, 2005. The server was chosen not for the RP experience but simply for its up time and stability amidst a very small pool of servers at that time. It was a game then and the guild was formed just for a few close friends to have a channel to chat in while we explored this new and exciting world. Then one day we got invited into a PUG Molten Core and the raiding bug bit us very hard. We were addicted and we decided that our only purpose in the game was to raid. Everything else went to the wayside; raiding became our collective obsession. We became quite successful very fast. Over the years BoR has laid out goals for itself and conquered them all even when the deck was heavily stacked against us. WotlK was to be its crowning achievement. Unfortunately this will not be the case.
WHY WE ARE MOVING We are transferring servers for several reasons, most of which revolve around finding a larger pool of raiders to pull from in order to fuel our raids. RP servers simply do not offer the amount of solid raiders that PVE based servers do. It’s a pure and simple fact. If we want to better we have exactly three choices: A. We train and work with people to bring their skill level to the level that we need which is what we have been doing for five years. B. We go to other servers and convince talented raiders to transfer here. C. We transfer BoR to another server.
We are choosing the latter option and relocating to Malfurion.
This will also give us the chance to rebuild the guild from the ground up. Historically we have never spoken of rebuilding the guild in a good light; we talk about how hard it was, how much work it was, and how it ended just short of where we wanted to be for the effort. In the past rebuilding the guild was a forced issue due to loss of raiders, internal drama, and other factors. This time we will be making the decision and the decision has been made. This rebuild is something that we, the Officers and Organizers, are very much looking forward to. It is a chance to get back to the core values that this guild was founded upon; raiding, improving the game play of raiders, and working together with like minded and skilled individuals to defeat the biggest baddest encounters the game has to offer.
We have kept those values true in concept but have failed to reinforce it in practice due to the lack of a solid raiding pool to pull from; we settle for less so that we can at least get enough warm bodies together in order to form a raid that has to struggle. Those raiders that show true promise and immense skill are quickly frustrated and jaded against those with less promise and skill, which in turn creates a stigma of arrogance and elitism which forms cancers in the guild that have been growing for entirely too long. We are exhausted from having to endure and survive this growing divide between those that know everything and are quick to tell you how much you suck and those that aren't even willing to do the legwork necessary to maintain performance levels needed for us to be successful on the scale that we desire to be.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR ALL OF YOU What this means for Brood members on CC is simple; BoR on CC is closing and the guild will be cleared out. We will leave behind, most likely an officer alt, to make sure the guild name cannot be used by anyone else; we worked hard to make the name what it is, for better or for worse, and we don't want to run the risk of anyone else polluting it. Anyone in the guild that wants to transfer to the new server is more than welcome to; it's your $25, do with it as you will. However, and this may sting, you will not be getting automatic guild invites. We are rebuilding with a core group of raiders and taking the opportunity to break old habits and old regimes. We feel very strongly that we have paid our dues on CC; anyone that has ever followed us has been well compensated in gear and experience and our unique community. It would serve us very little purpose to move to a new server and then invite the same people; we might as well stay here.
The core raiders that we are taking have been contacted previous to this post and are already committed to this move.
Anyone and everyone else that transfers is going to have to apply to the guild just like anyone off the street. And a word of warning; competition will be stiff. We are moving to a server where raiding is the one singular focus so the talent pool will be large and quite skilled. Those Brood members that do transfer will have a disadvantage when reapplying to the guild; we've already seen you raid, we already know what kind of raider and guild member you are. We will not be ginviting anyone out of a sense of loyalty; anyone that gets a guild invite to the new Brood will have earned it beyond the shadow of any doubt and we will be forging ahead with a clear mind, a clear conscience, and a clear focus.
To those that wish to follow us to our new home, I hope you are ready to raid hard like you've never done before. To those that choose not to follow, we thank you for making our community what it is and for giving us the best you could give.
All the best to everyone that is moving and those that are staying on CC. It was amazing to be with every Broodling over the 2+ years I was fortunate enough to be a part of BoR. Hope to see everyone at some point and keep kicking ass and taking names on Malfurion.
While i was never a core raider, I did always try to help out in any way that I could in BoR and I am said to see it disband after being involved for so many years. I wish you all the best and from the message I am assuming that only raiders need transfer to the new server to be assocaited with the guild. Best of luck I will miss you all
